Some Tips for Hiring and Getting Hired from Your LinkedIn Influencer!

Some tips for hiring and getting hired – To candidates & HR/Managers from your LinkedIn Influencer.

I LOVE ROLE-PLAYING! (Oh! not what you are thinking) I mean I like to change my roles; sometimes I’m a consultant, sometimes a trainer, sometimes HR, sometimes a student, etc. So recently, I became an HR as I am hiring interns for my LinkedIn content.

10 people showed interest, but out of them 6 weasel out if you give them an assignment. So HRs, if you want to FILTER (sorry for the Excel pun) non-serious candidates, give them an assignment. Half will ignore you like our college crush!

The assignment should not be day-long. As a candidate, I don’t want to spend my full Sunday on it. It should be 90 to 120 minutes long, and if the candidate submits it, you must give them feedback on it. Effort should be respected; no excuses, sleep one hour less.

To candidates, I received 3-4 assignments, and I could see “AI” all over them. It was a BIG BIG TURN OFF. I have no problem with AI or ChatGPT; the problem is with the attitude of “kaam nilkna” or “copy paste” or “kaam chipkana.” When you use AI, it shows you are insincere.

Don’t get me wrong — use AI — but the final draft should be yours. It should reflect you, your work, your passion, your UNIQUE DNA. If all you provide is copy-paste, then better I invest in a premium subscription of ChatGPT.

Using AI is like trying to use pickup lines; trust me, I interact with a lot of women, and they don’t work. Honest and polite expression of intentions works!

As a candidate, you should have proof of work ready! Not sending it in 30 minutes! IT should be ready now. You are a CA or engineer or doctor; congrats!!

  • But do you have patient testimonials?
  • Do you have a research paper on any accounting standard, auditing standard, or any analysis of recent news or a scam?
  • Do you have a sample financial model ready?
  • Do you have a prototype, software code, or any automation workflow ready?

If you have it ready, then YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING HIRED INCREASE EXPONENTIALLY!

I had interviewed with another big 4 (honestly, I was seeking validation; I was happy at EY). The interviewer asked me, “Do you know VBA Macros?” I hit ALT + TAB and showed him my codes. I got the offer the SAME EVENING!

Also, last tip – follow-ups! Life is tough, we are busy, we miss out on emails, and get distracted by reels. Due to Bajaj Finance, I even avoid picking up unknown numbers now.

So do at least 2 follow-ups, be super polite. Don’t demand a reply; ask or seek permission for a reply. This is applicable for both HRs and candidates. When you follow up, add some humor or a fun light element.

Hope you found this post helpful; by the way, I am still looking out for interns, khoj jaari hai!
