Ahmedabad to Mumbai, from dropping CA to becoming ACCA and making it to Big4 Investment Banking!

Welcome to Decentralised Success Story Series Episode 1

I don’t believe in Ratan Tata-type PR-heavy narratives.

What truly inspires me are the stories of everyday people achieving success – without PR agencies, without legacy connections and with sheer grit.

On my wall, you shall find decentralised common man’s success stories.

Let me introduce you to a Big 4 Investment Banker – Kishan Kavadia from Ahmedabad (Karnavati)

Kishan was my colleague at EY in the Valuation and Modelling (VME) team.

An #ACCA (not CA/CFA/MBA) with prior experience at Mazars, he was brilliant at building and reviewing/auditing complex financial models.

But after 2 years in the team, something felt off.

He felt he wasn’t growing enough!

Kishan craved real-world commercial exposure; he wanted Investment Banking!!

He pursued 6-7 interviews for various roles, and frankly, despite getting a couple of offers, nothing felt like THE RIGHT FIT! (vibe match nahi hui)

So he changed gears & began sending cold emails & MS Teams texts to partners across EY, exploring internal job transfers – IJP

(Note: most MNCs allow role change post 18 months via IJP policy, ask HR)

After dozens of emails & texts. Luckily, one partner replied. Two interviews later, Kishan had his shot.

His strong grip on the sector, valuations (thanks to his modelling background and cross-functional EY assignments), stood out.

EY’s leadership backed his transition, and today, Kishan is a front-end Investment Banker with EY’s Lead Advisory team.

The perks?

It is common knowledge that IB roles often come with 40% to 100% bonuses, apart from the base salary.

But beyond numbers, here’s what truly worked for Kishan:

✉️ He sent cold emails, persistently.

💼 He stayed ready, building credibility in his earlier roles (MOST IMPORTANT!)

⏳ He was patient when 6 – 7 interviews didn’t convert or roles didn’t fit.

Beyond being a rockstar professional, he’s also one of my closest friends (he knows my salary & relationship status :P)

His roots? A humble family business in Ahmedabad (Karnavati) & he is making a career in Mumbai

I hope his journey inspires every aspiring ACCA, analyst, and investment banker out there.

Let’s celebrate – decentralised, PR-free, and radically honest success stories! DM if you want to get featured 🙂
