A mentee shared with me yesterday: โChinmay, I donโt have good examples or case studies to practice Excel or Modelling.โ
I smiled and said – โA few days back, I was analysing mutual schemes and I solved the problem using Excelโ
You donโt need to โfindโ case studies. You notice problems around you and turn them into case studies.
Your real life is your lab/mine for experiments.
๐๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐น๐ผ๐,ย I had 2 mutual fund schemes – HDFC Flexi Cap and PPFAS flexi cap.
I simply, wanted to perform set theory analysis : n(A U B) = n(A) + n(B) – n(A โฉ B)
I solved it using following functions in Excel:
โข Vlookup
โข Filter
โข Vstack
โข Tocol
โข Iserror
You donโt need Harvard cases.
You need curiosity, ability to define problem statements & grit to solve them.
I have learnt most of my Excel simply by โsolving client/customer queriesโ

From an asset allocation perspective, I find Flexi-cap funds to be an efficient pooled investment vehicle. DIYD – Do Your Own Diligence.
Personally, Iโve chosen to include HDFC Flexi Cap in my portfolio.
